15 SONGS

TO KEEP YOU GOING

|Brian Abadia

Since I can remember, music has been a big part of my life. From listening to my parents’ old records, burning the perfect playlist to a CD, to now having a curated list of “liked” songs on Spotify, music has been life giving to me. So, in searching for new songs to add to our training playlists, we went ahead and picked the brains (and ears) of some of our fellow runners and athletes, and asked them what their faves are.

These are not ranked. Chances are, you may already know a few of them.

If you're in the mood for reading, read on! If not, you can scroll to the bottom where we have a Spotify playlist for ya'll...you know, for you non readers.

Full disclosure, some of these songs are rated E (explicit), so use your own discretion.

#15

Rockstar by Nickelback

This 2005 musical piece has reached the top of pop culture. Love it or hate it, Rockstar is a satirical take on the stereotypical, glamorous lifestyle of fame, fortune, and excess, written from the perspective of someone who craves it. And yeah, we’ve all been guilty of rocking Nickelback on a roadtrip

#14

I Only Smoke When I Drink by nimino

This is your typical “EDM” type of song. I Only Smoke When I Drink by British producer & DJ Nimino is a viral UKG/house track. Catchy vocal chops, stuttering, and club-ready energy perfect for a speed session with your fast EVO SLs. This song gained popularity on TikTok through a fan POV video.

#13

Best Day Ever by Mac Miller

Mac Miller's "Best Day Ever" is a feel-good anthem about choosing optimism, celebrating life, and feeling unstoppable despite challenges. This 2011 hit captures a carefree, nostalgic vibe focused on chasing happiness, maintaining a smile, and enjoying the journey to success. This was on repeat on Chris’ playlist. Thanks for that, brother.

#12

Night Running by Cage the Elephant

This 2019 musical piece from the Social Cues Album explores themes of escapism through music, nocturnal afterparty culture, and surrealism. Co-written with Beck, the song features hallucinatory lyrics about vampires and X-ray vision, often interpreted as a journey through a neon-lit, underground world.

#11

Runnin’ Down a Dream by Tom Petty

This song was written in 1989. Say whaaaat?!!! Runnin' Down a Dream is an uptempo rock anthem about the pursuit of personal ambition, freedom, and the exhilarating journey of chasing one's dreams. Mike Campbell and Jeff Lynne co-wrote this classic musical piece.

#10

Born For Greatness by Papa Roach

This song is an empowering, high-energy rock anthem about refusing to settle, overcoming adversity, and striving for excellence regardless of challenges. According to my research, Born for Greatness was the first song the band recorded for their Crooked Teeth album. The song serves as a defiant, uplifting message, inspiring listeners to recognize their own potential, purpose, and inner strength.

#9

Get Down on It by Kool & the Gang

Classic. Classic. Classic. We’ve all heard it. This 1981 classic has been sounding loud since Magnum P.I.’s stache was cool. Get Down on It is a funk/post-disco anthem encouraging people to stop being shy, let go of their inhibitions, and start dancing. And we shall definitely do that.

#8

Runaway by Kanye West

Kanye described this song as a toast for "jerks," urging people to embrace their flaws and toast to their own shortcomings rather than hiding them. Be advised, this is rated E.

#7

Omen by Disclosure, ft. Sam Smith

This house/R&B track is about recognizing the warning signs ("omens") of a failing, heart-breaking relationship, focusing on the pain of a partner's growing, unseen discontent. This one hits hard out there in the trails and leaves you wondering, who hurt you this bad, Jordan?

*Disclosure: No “Jordan” has been hurt by this song. He simply loves the vibe.

#6

LEMON by N.E.R.D., ft. Rihana

This is your typical upbeat, high-energy track focused on unapologetic confidence, taking control, and artistic freedom. This is the type of vibe that will get you pumped for a hard session.

This version of the song is rated E

#5

Goosebumps by Travis Scott

Psychedelic rap? Heck yeah!

This song is about the intense physical and emotional thrill of a passionate, almost obsessive love interest. The lyrics detail the unique rush—the "goosebumps"—felt when in the presence of or thinking about this person, often blending themes of desire with dark, surreal, and paranoid vibes. Again, thanks, Jordan. We can see a pattern starting to emerge here.

This version of the song is rated E

#4

Baile INoLVIDABLE by Bad Bunny

We couldn’t leave Benito behind. Our only Spanish-language song in this top 15, Baile Inolvidable from the album DeBÍ TiRAR MáS FOToS, uses the metaphor of an "unforgettable dance" to describe a love that was beautiful but temporary.

This song highlights feelings of love, heartbreak, and appreciation for the lessons learned. You may love or hate Bad Bunny, but his impact on popular culture has transcended language. He’s been featured in Hollywood movies and on SNL and is currently one of the most listened artists worldwide.

This version of the song is rated E... but in Spanish.

#3

TV OFF by Kendrick Lamar, ft. Lefty Gunplay

This song is a high-energy, confrontational track that calls for rejecting mainstream media, artificiality, and shallow consumption in hip-hop.

This version of the song is rated E

#2

Mr. Brightside by the Killers

This is a favorite of mine. The song's musicality and the rock energy of its drums and guitars are wonderful. Mr. Brightside by The Killers is an anthemic rock song about extreme jealousy, paranoia, and heartbreak, inspired by lead singer Brandon Flowers catching an ex-girlfriend cheating on him in Las Vegas. The lyrics detail the singer's obsessive, painful thoughts about his partner with another man.

#1

Get Down by Susto

Get Down, from their album Time in the Sun, explores the raw duality of life, focusing on navigating personal struggles, mental health, and finding camaraderie in shared hardships. This song is one of those hidden jewels that runners like Mike Basuini listen to while stealing your Local Legend title with a smile.

Hey, as a music lover and now runner, all I can say is thank you for making it this far down the list. This collab was only possible due to some amazing friends and runners who shared their love and musical taste with us. If there is any song we left out, please leave me a comment and don’t forget to check our new products. Yo can also DM us on Instagram at @foosterco.
